Christopher Jones to Perform in Mount Union's 'Oceans Apart'

2013 Nov 1

Christopher Jones, a freshman music education (clarinet) major of Solon, OH, will perform in the University of Mount Union's presentation of Oceans Apart, a collaborative piece by the Department of Theatre and the Department of Music, opening November 15 in the Dewald Chapel. Jones will participate in the role of Tenor.

Based in part on the stories of Vietnam veteran and theatre director Michael J. Arndt, Oceans Apart is a play written by Kevin P. Kern, assistant professor of theatre, with songs selected and conducted by Dr. Grant Cook, associate professor of music and director of choral activities.

Staged in vignettes with accompanying songs by the concert choir at Mount Union, Oceans Apart tells the story of loved ones separated by war who strive to stay in contact through letters. The action flows seamlessly between the stories, punctuated by songs from the concert choir.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 15 and 2 p.m. Sunday, November 17.

General admission tickets are $7 or $5 for seniors. Veterans receive free admission to the show, as do Mount Union students, faculty and staff members, though ticket reservation is required by calling (330) 821-2565. Proceeds from the performances will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Dewald Chapel is located on the University of Mount Union's campus across from Mount Union Stadium.
